The primary purpose of the pond is storm water management. The "wet pond" acts to both slow down the rate of storwater travel and allow pollutants to settle so they do not contaminate the watershed. An interactive map of the city to include stormwater drains can be found here. All the storm drains in our community drain into this pond, which then drains into the local watershed and into the bay.
The city has guidelines for proper maintenance of these ponds, please select the hyperlink to view the details. Additionally, the city codes for storm water management can be accessed by selecting the action button in green below.
The Home Owners Association contracts with "Solitude Lake Management" to both ensure city guidelines are maintained and also to keep the condition of the pond in an acceptable state.
It is important to know that the presence of the pond is a city requirement for our development. Because it receives storm water from other developments the city is responsible for dredging (a major expense) while the homeowners in the development in which it resides are responsible for general upkeep and maintenance.
Finally, because the pond acts as a receptor for settled storm water pollutants, DO NOT eat any fish or swim!!
